Own a piece of twin-radial history! This batch is made from the fuselage skin of a DC-3C. This DC-3C has a history shrouded in mystery. Records indicate that this aircraft was constructed as a C-47B-1-DK in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma circa 1943. Its construction number is 25735. It was then sent to the United States Army Air Corps with the serial number 43-48474. It served an unknown time in the 312TH Ferry Squadron, 27TH Air Transport Group. During WWII, the 312TH Ferry Squadron served in Ireland and England, providing logistics support and radio communications training for allied forces. Some point after the war, this plane served the Indiana Air National Guard for about a year under the tail number 0-48474. After its stint in the Indiana ANG, it might have been transferred to a vocational school in Kentucky some time in the 1970s, under the registration N8056. In 1992, a Certificate of Airworthiness was filed for this C-47B as a DC-3C (civilian designation for ex-military C-47s) by Phoenix Air under registration N8056. The aircraft was written off after a belly landing due to an engine issue. The resting place for the fuselage is in a boneyard in the California desert, It is not known how long it has been in storage, or where its other components are located. The paint is weathered, especially the interior paint, so it is safe to assume that the fuselage has been in storage for quite some time. If you have more history on this aircraft, we'd all love to hear it! Let us know on social media if you find out more about this beautiful airplane!
